When asked as a child if I had any fears I answered no
The dark gave me peace,
Peace in knowing light came before and will always come
after
Spiders, Mice and Wasps all deserve to live as much as I
Fear was an abstract concept I had not yet grasped
Bats and Heights, I came to fear
But never so much that I couldn’t appreciate Halloween
Or that the view from the top of the Empire State Building
didn’t change me forever
Now I fear what I can’t control
And that’s most terrifying of all
